Interview with Jessica Hollie owner of Bella’s Apothecary a skin care business

Hi Jessica, tell us more about you the owner of Bella’s Apothecary

I’m Jessica Hollie, I’m the Top Speaker in Open Level Parliamentary debate for Northern California. After that I went to document multiple instances of civil unrest under the pen name Bella Eiko, Occupy Oakland, Ferguson & I Can’t Breathe protests in New York. All of that work just to be a Black single mom from Oakland Ca that was gentrified out right after the birth of my son in 2013. I started making skincare products for my son & then myself. That turned into Bella’s Apothecary.

Tell us about Bella’s Apothecary and the products or services you offer

Bella’s Apothecary is a small, Black Woman owned, family run business that creates & hand makes natural skincare, haircare and healthcare products that are specially formulated for melanin rich skin.

We offer a variety of carefully crafted, herbal and natural skincare solutions. Here, we believe that self-care is the single most important thing, the care of your mind, body & spirit. This is at the center of our mission and, in our opinion, is the best way to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. Our goal is to be a part of your plans by removing barriers to wellness & making quality natural products accessible to all. Thank you for visiting us while on your path to embracing self-care and the holistic lifestyle changes.

Where came from the idea of founding your business?

I love my son. I wanted to be able to be present & not choose between him and a day at the office. I also wanted to be confident I was using products that are healthy and not chemical laced. Starting Bella’s Apothecary allowed me to fix both of those issues in my life while helping others.

Which aspects of your business do you think as the most important to success (your value)?

One of the most important aspects of my business is that I only use high quality ingredients that have been scientifically proven to work for the various issues my products address. This ensures customers know what they’re putting on their skin. Secondarily, a portion of my profits go towards helping those in need. Since covid shutdowns, we have provided groceries to more than 200 households for 3 months. We have also paid the tuition for 2 high school students to graduate after their families came upon hard times because of shut downs. Bella’s Apothecary pays it forward.
